Strand 2.0: Materials

Sub-strand 2.1: Growth of Timber Trees

• Description of the stages of tree growth from seedling to full maturity.

• Classification of timber trees into hardwoods and softwoods, including physical differences.

• Illustrating and labeling the cross-section of a tree trunk (pith, heartwood, sapwood, cambium, bark).

• Explanation of the functions of each part of the tree trunk.

• Practical activities such as site selection, bed preparation, planting, and monitoring tree nurseries.

• Discussion on sustainability, environmental benefits, and the importance of tree growing for timber production.
